After my collaboration with artist Joana Escoval in 2019 (Autumn. The Wind in the Tree, the Wind in the Water), I again used the Comipo! software as a base for exploring the concept of "global manga". This time in the form of a sequential narrative based on the eponymous short story by Isadora Neves Marques, a collaboration for which I produced a series of digital drawings.
Set against the backdrop of a futuristic, cyberpunk Rio de Janeiro, YWY, Searching for A Character In-between East and West is a narrative in three acts that follows the characters of the gynoid YWY (a name meaning "landscape" or "territory" in Tupi-Guarani), "played" by actress and indigenous artist Zahy Guajajara, and Isadora Neves Marques, as they escape from a fascist militia throughout the urban landscapes of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Hong Kong, which merge into one another.
This work was presented in the exhibition YWY, Visions, curated by Rosa Lléo, at the 1646 gallery in The Hague, Netherlands. It was later developed further for two subsequent exhibitions in Spain.
/Depois da minha colaboração com a artista Joana Escoval em 2019 (Autumn), voltei novamente a utilizar o software Comipo! como base para explorar o conceito de "manga global". Desta feita, sob a forma de uma narrativa sequencial baseada numa história homónima de Isadora Neves Marques, uma colaboração para a qual produzi uma série de desenhos digitais.
Tendo como pano de fundo uma Rio de Janeiro futurista e cyberpunk, YWY, Searching for A Character In-between East and Wes é uma narrativa queue segue as personagens da ginoide YWY (um nome que significa "paisagem" ou "território" em Tupi-Guarani), "interpretada" pela actriz e artista indígena Zahy Guajajara, e Isadora Neves Marques, enquanto fogem de uma milícia fascista através das paisagens urbanas do Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo e Hong Kong, que se fundem umas nas outras.
Esta obra foi apresentada na exposição YWY, Visions, com curadoria de Rosa Lléo, na galeria 1646 em A Haia, Países Baixos. Foi depois desenvolvida para duas exposições subsequentes em Espanha.
